Andalus is a grassroots initiative involving Scottish Muslims. We are rooted in Scottish culture and working from within the heart of both the minority and majority communities.
Andalus is the Arabic name given to the Iberian Peninsula, now known as Spain and Portugal. During the Muslim era, Andalus became a centre of learning for people of different faiths and countries. It was also a period of religious tolerance and harmony, where Muslims, Jews and Christians co-existed peacefully, advancing the spiritual and intellectual growth of their communities. It is the spirit and practice of this era in European and Islamic history, often referred to as a 'Golden Age', to which we aspire.
Our motto is the same motto that was placed above the entrance to the major universities of Andalus:
"The world is held by four pillars:
the wisdom of the learned,
the justice of the great,
the prayers of the righteous,
and the valour of the brave."
Andalus is a charitable company established in Glasgow, January 2000.
